"Training is the most important key to successful Scouting..."
Training - Youth Protection
Youth Protection - it's for everyone

Youth Protection training is available for all areas of Scouting: Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouting, and Venturing.

The Venturing module addresses some of the unique aspects of the Venturing program such as coed crews and the age proximity of youth and adults in the program.

Youth Protection training may be taken in two ways:
  • Online (Reserve 30 to 45 minutes to complete the training). Be sure to print out the certificate provided when completing the course for verification of completion!
  • Instructor led with video support and discussion (reserve 90 minutes).
Check the Training Schedule for available dates and with your District for dates, times and locations.
Members who complete either version will be considered "trained" in youth protection - it is not necessary to take more than one course.

SENECA WATERWAYS COUNCIL REQUIRES THIS TRAINING BE RENEWED EVERY THREE YEARS.

Why take Youth Protection?
The BSA's Youth Protection Program supports the following five-point strategy to prevent child abuse:

  • Educating Scouting volunteers, parents, and Scouts to aid in the detection and prevention of child abuse.
  • Establishing leader-selection procedures to prevent offenders from entering the BSA leadership ranks.
  • Establishing policies that create barriers to child abuse within the program.
  • Encouraging Scouts to report improper behavior to identify offenders quickly.
  • Swift removal and reporting of alleged offenders.

Youth Protection Training helps you understand your role in implementing the five points of this strategy.

Your participation not only reflects your concern about children's safety in this society, but also your willingness to take steps toward halting child abuse and its detrimental effects!
