The 2010 Camp Season
Camp Babcock Hovey Application 2010 »
For Boy Scouts
Scouts register for summer camp through their troop. Talk to your Scoutmaster to find out when your troop is attending camp, and then sign up for the fun! (Venture crews can also attend camp - speak with your crew advisor.)
Not a Boy Scout?
Only registered Scouts can attend Scout camp. If you're not a Scout, summer camp is a great reason to join! Call the number listed under "Boy Scouts of America" in your local phone book to find a Boy Scout troop near you. For more information on Scouting in Monroe County, New York, visit the Seneca Waterways Website or phone (585) 244-4210.
Paying For Camp - 2010
Your Scoutmaster or crew advisor will explain the camp fees, when payments are due. One week at Camp Babcock-Hovey costs $260.00 for most Scouts (those in Seneca Waterways Council units that registered by November 1 and those in out-of-council units returning for their consecutive year that registered by November 1.) The fee for the adult leaders who attend camp for the week is $50.00
The fee includes a $100.00 deposit (per Person, Non Refundable) due to Seneca Waterways Council by December 15, and additional $100 (per Person, Non Refundable) by March 12, and the balance (Non Refundable) by May 21. A late fee of $25.00 (per Person) is charged for each receipt received after May 15. If brothers attend summer camp, then each brother receives a $15.00 discount on the camp fee. Special programs such as Mountain Fox may include extra fees.
Camp Babcock-Hovey is a bargain. Many private camps cost at least $350.00, or even much more, for a week. Many Scout camps in our area cost more than Massawepie! Even so, we recognize that some families will have difficulty paying for camp, despite the fundraising efforts of their troops. Seneca Waterways Council Scouts who need financial help may apply for a campership through their troop.
Campership applications are treated in a confidential manner, and are due no later than April 15, 2010. Camperships are determined by a committee based on need, and normally cover a maximum of 50% of the total camp fee.
Troop Registration
Troops may register for summer camp by completing and returning a "Camp Babcock-Hovey Application " available for download on the Forms page. Please be aware that in order to maintain program quality, and to avoid overcrowding of the dining facilities, registration must be limited. Registrations are accepted on a first come first served, "space available" basis, starting at the Here's How sessions in April each year.
Typically, more space is available in Week 1 and Week 6 than in other weeks. Also, dining hall space fills up faster than patrol cooking space. Register early, and consider attending Week 1 or 6 or doing patrol cooking.
Babcock-Hovey's growing popularity is wonderful, but please be flexible while the Seneca Waterways Council explores ways to increase capacity without affecting program quality.
For registration questions, contact the Seneca Waterways Council Servicenter. Units registering before November 1, $25.00 is due by December 15 or on the date you register if after December 15, and the remainder by May 15, 2010. A minimum of two qualified leaders must be in charge during the unit's stay in camp. At least one leader must be over 21; the other may be a responsible leader 18 or older. Boy Scout and Leader fees are nonrefundable, but may be transferred to an individual not yet registered to attend.
