Camp Babcock Hovey - About Us
About Babcock Hovey

In 1937 Gordon Hovey and Birton Babcock purchased and donated the land that makes up the present day site of Camp Babcock Hovey. Two years later, after construction of the initial camp facilities, the camp was formally dedicated and opended.

Babcock Hovey is administered by a full-time Camp Director and Ranger, trained and certified by The National Camping School of the Boy Scouts of America. The Council Executive Board through the Council Camping Committee supervises the camp. The camp is inspected and licensed by the Seneca County Department of Health.

Each year, the Council Camping Committee and a Regional Camp Visitation Team inspect the camp. It is consistently rated as a Nationally Accredited Camp. Copies of reports are available from the Finger Lakes Council Service Center.

Babcock Hovey offers a variety of year round unit camping.

Boy Scout Summer Camping
  • Traditional Summer Camping
Five weeks of Traditional Summer Camping are offered. Campers are housed in two-man canvas tents on wooden platforms or four-man wooden lean-tos. All are furnished with a bed and mattress for each camper and leader. All meals are prepared by the food service staff and are served in the camp-dining hall. Latrines are provided in each site, and centralized hot shower facilities are available for campers and leaders.

  • Provisional Camping
For Scouts who cannot attend with their troop or are just looking for another week at camp. Campers are encouraged to make arrangements to stay with another unit or come to camp under the leadership of our Provisional Scoutmaster. No additional fee is required.

  • Specialty Camping
Each week, Scouts looking for extra fun can enjoy a week designed around a special program. Additional fees may apply:

Cub Scout & Webelos Summer Camping
Cub camping is an exciting way to learn new skills, make new friends and learn more about doing your best. Regardless of your past camping experience, there is an adventure or two that's just right for you. You may choose from four different camping experiences.
Short Term Week-end Camping Camping - Fall, Winter, Spring
Weekends, Friday evening until Sunday noon, during the months of September - May. Contact the council for facilities availability, then send in a Short-Term Camping Application with a $25 security deposit & rental fee for the facilities you wish to rent. Description of facilities available for Short-Term Camping.

Reservation Policy
In order to maximize usage of all sites to accommodate troops and campers each week, units will be allowed to indicate three choices of campsite in order of preference. Site assignments will be made based on attendance and campsite capacity. Final placements are made based on May 23rd reservations.

Tour Permits
All out of council units must provide a properly completed tour permit on arrival at camp. Please see your local council service center for forms and information.
